"[James Walker] is a virtuoso he indicated in his ingenious transcription of a Bach sonata for solo violin." (excerpted from a review by Frank Merkling, Danbury (CT) News-Times Arts Critic - June 26, 2000) "Chausson's "Cantique de Sainte Cecile" showed have a sweet and pointed soprano well suited to French and to Italian, as she proved in three Tosti songs delivered with fine phrasing"

The Vokes-Walker Duo is comprised of Sara Vokes, soprano, and James Walker, percussion. Their concert repertoire ranges from transcriptions of Baroque and Classical pieces, to classic American song. They recently premiered a new piece for voice and marimba, composed especially for the Duo by composer Charles Bubeck.

The Duo also incorporates modern technology into their performances, featuring James' work on mallet synthesizer. Recent performances at private functions featured songs by Enya (Only Time) and Peter Gabriel (In Your Eyes), and took advantage of the wide variety of sounds available through the use of synthesizers.

The Duo perform in concert, for private events, and are active as clinicians and educators (both having taught at the University level).

SARA VOKES has performed with Glimmerglass Opera (as a resident artist), Tulsa Opera, Illinois Opera, and Ithaca Opera.
